Dr. krista dewar, DNP, nurse practitioner at Lifestyle Health and Wellness in Dubuque, Iowa.

Let me tell you a little about myself..

As well as embarking on my own wellness journey back in 2011, I have been in the medical field for over 19 years. I received my Associates degree in Nursing from North Iowa Area Community College (NIACC), and then continued on  to the University of Iowa for my Bachelors of Science in Nursing and Doctorate in Nursing Practice degrees. I am a board certified Family Nurse Practitioner and a Diplomate of the American College of Lifestyle Medicine. In 2021, I published an article in the Journal of PeriAnesthesia Nursing and received my certificate in Obesity Medicine from the Obesity Medicine Association. I am a Chek level 1 health coach, a certified yoga instructor, pilates instructor, Reiki practitioner, and lover of education. Currently, my free time is spent working towards receiving a Functional Medicine certificate. I place a strong focus on continuing education and attend many conferences each year, learning about new modalities, treatments, the latest research and ways to improve my practice and my patient’s health. There’s always more to learn, and each new insight helps us piece together a clearer picture.

I believe that a ‘one size fits all’ approach rarely works, which is why each client receives an individualized treatment plan and patient centered approach. We offer a wide range of options to suit everyone’s specific needs, with treatment recommendations ranging from medication to mindfulness. If you are seeking unparalleled health services from a medical practitioner who focuses on the whole person, I would love to hear from you!

Meet Dr. Brandi Huinker

DNP, ARNP, FNP-BC · Now accepting new patients

“I want to provide personalized patient care that goes beyond symptoms and promotes overall well-being through all aspects of one’s life.”

I’m a born-and-raised Dubuquer with more than ten years in healthcare and a lifelong passion for helping people. I earned my Associate’s degree in Nursing at Northeast Iowa Community College, my Bachelor of Science in Nursing at the University of Iowa, and my Doctorate of Nursing Practice at Clarke University. I’m a board-certified Family Nurse Practitioner, certificate in advanced bioidentical hormone replacement therapy, and currently pursuing a functional medicine certification — because my patients deserve a provider who never stops learning.

I became a nurse practitioner because I never wanted to be the provider who pushes a patient’s concerns to the side. I believe most symptoms have more than one cause, and I don’t believe in dismissing a concern just because a lab report says “normal.” At Lifestyle Health & Wellness, I get to practice the way I always wanted to: taking real time with each person, connecting labs to how you actually feel, and looking at sleep, stress, nutrition, and movement - not just the symptom that brought you in.

When I’m not at the clinic, you’ll find me exploring new places — or on a sunset walk — with my husband and our dog, Ozzy. I’m looking for patients who are ready to take an active role in their health. If that’s you, we’ll get along just fine.
